EduAsiaNews, Banda Aceh – Universitas Bina Bangsa Getsempena (UBBG) has implemented the Impactful Student Program, an initiative introduced by the Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, Sains, dan Teknologi (Kemdiktisaintek), as part of post-flood recovery efforts in several regions of Sumatra. The program took place in Meunasah Pante Geulima Village, Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, one of the areas affected by the disaster.
The Impactful Student Program is led by Miswatul Hasanah, M.Pd., with Helnita, M.Pd., serving as a team member. The initiative is funded by Kemdiktisaintek through the BIMA grant scheme, which aims to encourage higher education institutions to take an active role in disaster management and to strengthen community capacity through science- and technology-based approaches.
A total of 50 students from Universitas Bina Bangsa Getsempena were deployed directly to the flood-affected areas under the supervision of field advisors Asifa Askha, S.Sn., M.Sn., and Riska Gebrian, S.Pd., M.Sn. The students actively engaged in various social and educational activities as a tangible contribution of the academic community to society during the recovery period.
Several post-flood recovery programs were implemented, including trauma healing activities based on educational games for children and vulnerable groups to support psychological recovery. In addition, the team carried out applied science-based environmental health strengthening initiatives, focusing on post-flood hygiene education, prevention of environment-related diseases, and the promotion of clean and healthy living practices through simple scientific approaches.
The program coordinator, Miswatul Hasanah, M.Pd., stated that the Impactful Student Program was designed not only to assist flood-affected communities in Sumatra, but also to serve as a contextual learning platform for students.
“Students are trained to be sensitive to social issues and capable of applying their academic knowledge in real-life situations, particularly in disaster response and recovery efforts,” she explained.
Through this program, Universitas Bina Bangsa Getsempena, together with Kemdiktisaintek, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting post-flood recovery in Sumatra and strengthening the role of higher education institutions as agents of change with direct impact on society.
