
EduAsiaNews, Jember – The Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Jember (FK UNEJ) has officially opened two new Specialist Medical Education Programs (Program Pendidikan Dokter Spesialis/PPDS), namely the PPDS in Internal Medicine (Ilmu Penyakit Dalam/IPD) and the PPDS in Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy (Anestesiologi dan Terapi Intensif/ATI).
According to the Dean of FK UNEJ, the decision to establish these two new specialist programs reflects the Faculty’s commitment to supporting the advancement of national healthcare services. The inauguration of the two PPDS programs was officiated by the Rector of Universitas Jember at the third-floor auditorium of the dr. R. Achmad Rectorate Building on 13 February 2026.
In her report, the Dean of FK UNEJ, Dr. dr. Ulfa Elfiah, M.Kes., Sp.BP-RE., Subsp.L.B.L. (K), stated that the establishment of the PPDS in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy was made possible through strong collaboration among the central government—represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes)—the Provincial Government of East Java, the Jember Regency Government, affiliated teaching hospitals, and Faculties of Medicine at public universities, particularly within the East Java region. She emphasized that the implementation of specialist medical education requires collective commitment and cooperation from all healthcare stakeholders.
“The presence of these two new specialist study programs complements the previously established Surgical PPDS. It does not rule out the possibility of opening additional specialist programs in the future,” she stated.
In his remarks, the Rector of Universitas Jember expressed his gratitude for the launch of the two new PPDS programs at FK UNEJ. The opening of the PPDS in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy marks a significant milestone as FK UNEJ approaches its twenty-fifth anniversary. The establishment of these programs also demonstrates the Faculty’s academic readiness as well as the adequacy of its facilities and infrastructure, as evidenced by the establishment of the UNEJ State University Hospital (RS PTN UNEJ).
Acting Secretary of the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti), Prof. Setiawan, delivered his remarks virtually. He explained that the establishment of new specialist programs forms part of President Prabowo Subianto’s national health agenda, which seeks to address the need for more general practitioners and medical specialists across Indonesia. He noted that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology have issued permits for 160 new specialist and subspecialist study programs—comprising 128 specialist and 68 subspecialist programs—including the two new PPDS programs at FK UNEJ.
The inauguration ceremony of the PPDS in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at FK UNEJ was attended by key healthcare stakeholders from Jember and the Tapal Kuda region. Among those present were representatives of the Jember Regency Government, the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Airlangga, the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Brawijaya, affiliated hospitals, representatives of the Collegium of Internal Medicine, representatives of the Collegium of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, and other distinguished guests.
