EduAsiaNews, Hongkong — The University of Hong Kong (HKU) held the inaugural Employer–Talent Speed UP 2026 at Loke Yew Hall on January 16, 2026. Initiated by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), the event brought together 60 student ambassadors from various faculties and schools with more than 100 company representatives across diverse sectors, including banking and finance, technology, engineering, professional services, retail, healthcare, property, construction, the public sector, and non-governmental organizations.

The event was designed as an interactive forum to bridge the recruitment needs of industry partners with students’ readiness to enter the workforce. Through matched group networking sessions and cross-sector dialogues, students and employers discussed industry trends, required competencies, and the challenges of transitioning from university life to a professional environment.

During the forum, employers gained direct insights into HKU students’ academic strengths and career aspirations. In turn, students had the opportunity to refine their professional communication skills and build networks with industry leaders. Such interactions were considered essential in boosting students’ confidence as they navigate recruitment processes and an ever-evolving job market.

HKU Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Kelvin Yeung, stated that the initiative aligns with the university’s 115-year commitment to equipping students with knowledge, global perspectives, and skills relevant to future needs. He added that HKU continues to strengthen its curriculum by integrating artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary learning to develop students’ digital, analytical, and soft skills.

Several industry partners welcomed the forum, describing it as effective in building a sustainable talent pipeline and helping companies better understand the character and potential of the younger generation. Through this initiative, HKU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening university–industry partnerships and building a robust campus-to-career ecosystem that supports Hong Kong’s position as a regional and global talent hub.
