EduAsiaNews, jakarta — The Undergraduate Nursing Study Program at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to strengthen the quality of its education to produce graduates who are excellent, innovative, and competitive. One of its primary advantages lies in its focus on matra (specialized field-based) health, in line with the program’s vision to compete at the national and Asian levels by 2030. This was conveyed by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Nursing Program at UPNVJ, Ns. Gamya Tri Utami, S.Kep., M.Kep., in an interview with the UPNVJ Public Relations team.
According to Gamya, the excellence of the UPNVJ Undergraduate Nursing Program is not only reflected in classroom-based theoretical learning but also in its integrated practical experience. Students are equipped through laboratory practicums as well as clinical practice in various settings, ranging from hospitals and community health centers to community-based environments. This learning model is designed to ensure that students develop academic readiness, technical skills, and adaptability in responding to the ever-evolving demands of healthcare services.
She further explained that the distinctive focus on matra health differentiates the UPNVJ Undergraduate Nursing Program from similar programs. In its implementation, students not only study general nursing concepts but also participate in cross-program practices within the Faculty of Health Sciences. These activities are realized through joint simulations, such as emergency response and disaster management simulations, allowing students to gain collaborative learning experiences from an early stage. The strengthening of matra health education is also evident in various academic activities within FIKES UPNVJ, including workshops and matra health skill stations that emphasize disaster management.
“Students do not only learn in the classroom, but also through laboratory work, clinical practice, and joint simulations. This is a key advantage, as they are accustomed to facing real-life situations, including emergencies and disasters,” said Gamya.
In terms of career prospects, graduates of the UPNVJ Undergraduate Nursing Program have broad opportunities in the healthcare sector. They may pursue careers as nurses in hospitals and other healthcare facilities, both domestically and internationally. In addition, graduates may work as health educators, serve as government officials in institutions such as the Health Office, or develop careers as nurse entrepreneurs.
Gamya added that the opportunity to become a nurse entrepreneur is available once graduates meet professional requirements, such as obtaining a Registration Certificate (STR) and a Practice License (SIP). With these qualifications, graduates of the Undergraduate Nursing Program and the professional Ners program can establish independent nursing practices in accordance with applicable regulations. This career pathway demonstrates that nursing education not only prepares healthcare professionals to work within institutions but also encourages professional independence.
The strengths of practice-based learning, enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration, and a focus on matra health highlight UPNVJ’s commitment to producing graduates who are responsive to challenges in the healthcare sector. The program’s official vision further reinforces this direction: to become an उत्कृष्ट and innovative Undergraduate Nursing and Ners Program in matra health, characterized by a national defense identity, and capable of competing at the national and Asian levels by 2030.
For prospective students with a strong interest in becoming professional nurses, the Undergraduate Nursing Program at FIKES UPNVJ offers a learning environment that integrates scientific knowledge, practical skills, and preparedness for specialized situations. In line with UPNVJ’s commitment under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., strengthening the quality of study programs forms part of the university’s efforts to deliver higher education that is relevant, competitive, and beneficial to society.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
