EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – In an effort to strengthen the direction of religious higher education development and social integration over the coming year, Commission VIII of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) conducted a Specific Working Visit to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta at the Diorama Room on Thursday (12/02/2026).

This visit marked a strategic moment, considering that Commission VIII of the DPR RI is specifically responsible for matters related to Religion, Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection. The commission’s presence aimed to directly review the readiness and quality of educational services at UIN Jakarta as one of its principal institutional partners.

The delegation was welcomed by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., accompanied by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A.; the Vice Rector for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A.; the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D.; along with the Deans of Faculties and members of the academic community.

The delegation was led by the Deputy Chair of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, H. Abidin Fikri, S.H., M.H., and included commission members from various factions, including Hidayat Nur Wahid (PKS Faction), Wahidin Halim (NasDem Faction), Ina Ammania (PDI-P Faction), and other members.

During the discussion session, the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep, presented the university’s strategic achievements and the 2025–2029 roadmap under the theme “Capacity Strengthening for All: Islamic Sustainable University.” He emphasized UIN Jakarta’s position not merely as an educational institution, but also as a pillar in the development of the nation’s religious human resources.

“UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is the largest UIN under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and, I would say, the leading UIN among State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN). We are currently determined to continue the institutional development trajectory by transforming from a Public Service Agency (BLU) into a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH),” the Rector stated in his remarks.

Rector Asep further outlined the university’s priorities, which include internationalization, digitalization, and the implementation of the Green Campus concept. He highlighted the success of digital governance systems and sustainable environmental management.

“The digitalization of administrative processes, including the implementation of a paperless office system, has been realized. Official dispositions are no longer processed on paper but directly through tablets. In terms of the Green Campus initiative, Alhamdulillah, waste generated at UIN is not transported خارج the campus; instead, it is managed and recycled internally,” he added.

In response to the presentation, the Deputy Chair of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, Abidin Fikri, expressed his appreciation. As a commission overseeing social and environmental issues, he considered UIN Jakarta’s independent waste management system a positive breakthrough.

“The waste management at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah does not leave the campus premises. It is processed using environmentally friendly technology, enabling the waste to be repurposed—some into fertilizer and even paving blocks,” he remarked.

In addition to the discussion session, the delegation of Commission VIII of the DPR RI toured the campus using electric buses (Bilis) to directly observe the facilities and to symbolize environmental commitment through the planting of orange trees in the Café Cangkir area.
