Carrying the theme “Where Young Talents Meet the Spirit of Champions,” the event was formally opened by the Rector of Universitas Udayana and marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Persatuan Cricket Indonesia of Bali Province. This milestone signifies a strategic synergy between higher education institutions and the development of competitive sports in Bali. The opening ceremony was attended by members of the university leadership, representatives of the regional government, and officials from sports organizations.

In his report, the Head of the Cricket Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Udayana, Kadek Satya Adi Wiratama, stated that the tournament would run for four days, from 20 to 23 February 2026, featuring participants from senior high schools/vocational high schools and universities. The participation of leading teams from various regions demonstrates that the 3rd Rector’s Cup has evolved into not only a competitive sporting event but also a platform for nurturing young athletic talent. He expressed hope that the tournament would serve not merely as a competition arena, but also as a medium for strengthening character, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among the younger generation.

The tournament welcomed participants from various educational levels, reflecting strong enthusiasm for the sport of cricket. At the senior high school/vocational high school level, participating schools included SMAN 1 Mengwi, SMAN 1 Semarapura, SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan, SMAS Pariwisata PGRI Dawan Klungkung, SMAN 1 Blahbatuh, SMAN 1 Petang, and SMAN 11 Denpasar. At the university level, participating institutions comprised Universitas Tunas Pembangunan Surakarta, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Malang, as well as Universitas Udayana as the host. The cross-level participation further affirms that the 3rd Rector’s Cup serves not only as a competitive event but also as a platform for athlete development and inter-institutional networking in building a solid and sustainable cricket ecosystem.

The Chairman of the Bali Provincial Board of Persatuan Cricket Indonesia, Anak Agung Bagus Tri Candra Arka, S.E., conveyed his deep appreciation for Universitas Udayana’s commitment to the advancement of cricket. He highlighted the university’s tangible contributions in supporting Bali’s cricket achievements at the national level, including its remarkable accomplishments at the most recent National Sports Week (PON). “The signing of the MoU will serve as concrete evidence of Universitas Udayana’s support for Bali cricket,” he affirmed, while also reminding athletes to uphold sportsmanship and to regard competition as a means of building moral character and mental resilience as sports patriots.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Universitas Udayana, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, ST., Ph.D., emphasized in his remarks that the 3rd Rector’s Cup is not merely an annual tournament, but a strategic platform for nurturing talent and character. He delivered an inspiring message to all athletes and attendees:

“Winning is admirable. But playing with respect and honesty is far more admirable.”

This statement underscored the fundamental values upheld by the university—integrity, collaboration, and resilience—as essential foundations in both sports and academic life.

Furthermore, the Rector noted that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding constitutes a concrete step toward establishing sustainable athlete development and expanding the ecosystem of competitive sports in Bali. Universitas Udayana is committed to providing access to its representative cricket facilities not only for its academic community but also for Bali’s cricket athletes at large. This synergy is expected to enhance both the quality and quantity of cricket enthusiasts, while strengthening Bali’s position as one of Indonesia’s prominent centers of cricket excellence.

With a spirit of healthy competition and high enthusiasm among participants, the 3rd Rector’s Cup of Universitas Udayana Cricket Championship 2026 stands as a symbol of the convergence between youthful energy and the spirit of champions. Beyond a sporting event, it reflects the strategic role of higher education institutions as breeding grounds for future leaders—intellectually capable, mentally resilient, and guided by integrity in every endeavor. Through the collaboration forged today, it is hoped that Bali cricket will continue to achieve outstanding success at both the national and international levels.
