EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Teater Hijau Lima Satu (THLS), the theater group of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), earned four awards at the 2026 Jakarta Campus Theater Festival (FTKJ), including First Place for Best Theater Group.
The awards were announced during the FTKJ 2026 Awards Night at Teater Kecil, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. In addition to being named Best Theater Group, THLS received awards for Best Makeup, Best Sound, and Best Director, highlighting the group’s achievements across both artistic and technical aspects of theatrical production.
THLS was also nominated for Best Production Management and Best Actress, with Athasya Naila Insyra representing the group in the latter category.
The achievement reflects the team’s strong performance throughout the festival, as well as the commitment and collaboration of its members in preparing the production. Approximately 30 THLS members were involved in the performance, taking on roles ranging from actors and directors to artistic, makeup, sound, and production management teams.
Kaitsar Muhammad Hizkyl, a Communication Studies undergraduate at UPNVJ and a member of THLS, described FTKJ as an important platform for university theater groups in Jakarta to showcase their work, test their creative capabilities, and exchange experiences with fellow performers.
“FTKJ 2026 is a prestigious theater festival among universities in Jakarta. It is a great honor for Teater Hijau to win at this event,” Kaitsar said.
The festival initially involved 21 higher education institutions before the selection process narrowed the field to 15 finalist groups. Each finalist presented its own production, bringing together hundreds of students involved in various creative and production roles.
THLS presented its production on 18 August 2026 at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium at UPNVJ. The performance was preceded by an intensive preparation process that included rehearsals, stage and prop development, character building, artistic design, sound production, and promotional activities.
Balancing the demands of the festival with academic responsibilities was among the major challenges faced by the team.
“The preparation was certainly demanding because Teater Hijau had set winning the festival as its target. It required considerable time, effort, and resources from each member, while we also had to make sure that our academic responsibilities were not compromised,” Kaitsar explained.
He said maintaining consistency among team members was another major challenge. The actors had to prepare physically and mentally, while the director and artistic team worked to translate the production concept into a cohesive stage performance. Meanwhile, the production team handled technical and managerial requirements to ensure that every element of the performance worked together effectively.
Kaitsar attributed the group’s success to the discipline and collaboration of its members throughout the preparation process.
“Alhamdulillah, all of our efforts paid off with our success at the FTKJ 2026 Awards Night. We also tried to maintain a balance between enjoying the process, learning, and staying committed to our rehearsals,” he said.
For THLS, however, the four awards are not the final destination. The group sees the achievement as a new starting point for strengthening its creative capacity, expanding its knowledge of theater, improving production quality, and preparing the next generation of members.
“I hope Teater Hijau and all its members will remain humble and continue learning about theater. We need to keep expanding our knowledge and not stop here,” Kaitsar said.
He also hopes THLS can consistently produce quality works through theater performances, festivals, and other artistic learning opportunities.
“It is not only about winning. We hope to become an example, or even a role model, for other theater groups by showing how Teater Hijau can consistently develop into an outstanding theater group,” he added.
Established on 22 January 1994, Teater Hijau Lima Satu is one of UPNVJ’s student activity units dedicated to the arts. The organization provides a platform for students interested in theater and the broader development of arts and culture. Its activities emphasize creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, and personal development through theatrical practice.
THLS’s success at FTKJ 2026 reflects UPNVJ’s continued commitment to supporting student development beyond the classroom.
