EduAsiaNews, Depok – Universitas Indonesia (UI), through the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA), has officially established a partnership with IR School to organize the Mastering in Industrial Relations Program (MIRP). The partnership agreement was signed at Boemi Mata Hati, Bojong Koneng, Sentul, on Monday (September 14).
The partnership forms part of efforts to develop professional competencies in industrial relations, particularly to encourage HR and Industrial Relations (IR) practitioners to assume more strategic roles within organizations. Through MIRP, participants are not only expected to understand and address industrial relations issues but also to provide strategic perspectives and recommendations to corporate management and leadership.
MIRP is designed as a competency development program for professionals with experience in HR and IR. The program targets HR Managers, Industrial Relations Managers, HR/IR Leaders, middle- and senior-management professionals, as well as practitioners who handle employment and industrial relations issues on a day-to-day basis. The first MIRP cohort consists of 66 participants.
This transformation in professional roles is reflected in the MIRP learning design. Participants are encouraged to progress from their traditional roles as problem solvers or case handlers to become Strategic Industrial Relations Business Partners. To achieve this competency, participants are equipped with knowledge that extends beyond technical industrial relations issues to encompass various factors influencing the sustainability and business strategies of companies.
The learning materials cover macroeconomic conditions, digitalization and productivity, human-centric approaches and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as Industrial Relations Design Thinking and problem solving. Participants also study conflict mitigation and resolution, social dialogue, negotiation, and partnerships with trade unions and Bipartite Cooperation Institutions (Lembaga Kerja Sama Bipartit).
Employment-related aspects are also incorporated into the curriculum, covering social security, outsourcing, Fixed-Term Employment Agreements (PKWT) and Indefinite-Term Employment Agreements (PKWTT), company regulations, Collective Labor Agreements (PKB), wage perspectives, and termination of employment (PHK). Through this comprehensive scope, participants are expected not only to understand industrial relations issues but also to recognize their connection to companies’ business needs and sustainability.
The signing ceremony was attended by FIA UI Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc. Also in attendance were Head of the Master’s and Doctoral Study Programs at FIA UI, Dr. Eko Sakapurnama, MBA, CHRM, and lecturer at the FIA UI Business Administration Study Program, Dr. Muhammad Ramaditya, B.B.A., M.Sc.
Through MIRP, UI is strengthening its role in bridging industry needs with professional competency development through education. The partnership with IR School represents one of UI’s initiatives to provide competency development programs that are relevant to the evolving needs of industry.
