EduAsiaNews, Jember – Universitas Jember (UNEJ) continues to reaffirm its commitment to expanding the university’s international reach and enhancing the global competitiveness of its graduates.
UNEJ Rector Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., officially sent off nine students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) who will participate in the International Education Internship Program in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia on Tuesday (September 1, 2026).
The Rector expressed his appreciation for the students’ readiness and dedication in being selected to participate in the international education internship program in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. He also emphasized the importance of using this opportunity to gain insights into best practices in global education.

“This international education internship program is a tangible manifestation of Universitas Jember’s commitment to providing students with a global learning experience. The students departing today are not only representing the university, but also the nation at the international level. I hope you will demonstrate professionalism and outstanding pedagogical competence, while upholding the reputation of your alma mater and your country throughout your placement in the partner countries,” he said.
According to the Rector, differences in education systems, including those related to language, can enrich students’ experiences throughout the program. Therefore, students are expected to view every difference as an opportunity to learn and broaden their perspectives.
He further encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to build international networks and professional connections. Interactions with students, teachers, and local communities in the partner countries are expected to open up opportunities for future collaboration.
“Moreover, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam share close cultural and historical ties with Indonesia, so make good use of this advantage. Build your networks and social connections. We never know what the people we meet today may become in the future. These encounters could lead to new friendships and broader social networks,” he explained.
Through the program, students are expected not only to gain academic experience but also to learn about educational practices in other countries and exchange experiences regarding various approaches to teaching and learning.
Five FKIP UNEJ students will undertake their International Education Internship at Universiti Brunei Darussalam from September 3 to 27, 2026.
Echoing these sentiments, Dean of FKIP UNEJ Dr. Mohamad Na’im, M.Pd., explained that the program was designed to strengthen students’ international academic experience while fostering institutional partnerships.
“Through this program, students will not only develop their teaching skills but also broaden their international perspectives, enhance their cultural adaptability, and strengthen academic collaboration between Universitas Jember and partner institutions overseas,” the Dean explained.
This year’s FKIP UNEJ International Education Internship Program is divided into two placement groups in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. Five students will be placed at Universiti Brunei Darussalam for approximately four weeks, from September 3 to 27, 2026. Meanwhile, four students will be placed at Universiti Putra Malaysia for approximately three weeks, from September 7 to 30, 2026.
Four FKIP UNEJ Science Education students will undertake their International Education Internship at Universiti Putra Malaysia from September 7 to 30, 2026.
Through this send-off, Universitas Jember is further strengthening its position as a quality higher education institution committed to producing professional educators with a global outlook. (dil/rb)
