Rektor ULM Opens the Signing Ceremony for Derivative Grant Contracts and the Workshop on Drafting Patent Application Descriptions

EduAsiaNews, Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), organized the Signing Ceremony for Derivative Contracts of the 2026 Research and Development Funding Program, along with a Workshop on Drafting Patent Application Descriptions, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Lecture Theater Building of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) ULM.

The event was officially opened by the Rector of ULM, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, and was also attended by representatives from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law of South Kalimantan, including the Head of the Legal Services Division, Meidy Firmansyah.

In his remarks, the Rector of ULM emphasized the university’s commitment to increasing the number of patent applications submitted each year. According to him, support from the university leadership is a crucial factor in strengthening a culture of innovation and intellectual property protection within the academic environment.

“To encourage an increase in patent applications every year, strong attention and support from the university leadership are essential. We hope that future patent application processes can continue to be facilitated by Universitas Lambung Mangkurat,” stated the Rector of ULM.

This activity forms part of ULM’s efforts to improve the quality of lecturers’ research and innovation outputs so that they obtain legal protection and added value through intellectual property rights, particularly patents.

The workshop on drafting patent application descriptions featured two speakers: Dr. Nanik Astuti Rahman and Dr. Ria Andriani. In their presentations, the speakers provided insights into the proper preparation of patent application documents in accordance with applicable regulations, including drafting claims, preparing invention descriptions, and strategies to improve the likelihood of passing substantive examination.

The Head of LPPM ULM expressed hope that the activity would enhance the understanding and skills of the academic community in producing innovative and highly competitive inventions, while also increasing the number of patents generated by ULM each year.

Through this initiative, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat reaffirmed its commitment to continuously supporting the development of impactful research and innovation for society, while strengthening the university’s position as a leading higher education institution in research and community service.
