EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – In an effort to enrich Islamic intellectual discourse during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 H, the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta introduced a digital initiative by launching a special edition of its Dialektika Podcast program titled “Fikih Genzi” (Fikzi) at the FSH Building on Wednesday (18/02/2026). The program serves as an academic response aimed at thoroughly exploring aspects of Islamic law that are relevant to the dynamic challenges faced by Generation Z.
Nagieb Jihadil Akbar, a student of the Comparative School of Islamic Jurisprudence program and Project Officer of Fikih Genzi, explained that the program was specifically designed to accompany audiences throughout the entire month of Ramadan. He elaborated on the program’s concept:
“The concept is to discuss issues of Islamic law through light and relatable themes connected to the daily lives of Gen Z, under the tagline ‘Be Sharia, Stay Relevant,’” he stated.
He further described the approach adopted in the podcast: “We discuss Islamic law through themes closely related to Gen Z life, presented by Gen Z themselves—students of the Faculty of Sharia and Law from various study programs.”
He emphasized that although the themes may appear simple, they carry significant urgency for young people to understand. “We aim to present discussions of Islamic law that are accessible and relevant to Gen Z’s daily experiences. That is why we call it Fikih Gen Z—Islamic law that resonates with the life of Gen Z,” he concluded.
Among the engaging topics to be discussed are mental health, the permissibility of cat fur, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic work, prayer while traveling, distinguishing between venting and ghibah (backbiting), the ruling on pay-later services, working out in accordance with sharia principles, selfies with filters, skincare products containing alcohol, sharing Netflix accounts, anxiety phenomena, giveaway practices, creating content in places of worship, and watching horror films.
The launch of this innovative program received strong appreciation from the faculty leadership. The Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., expressed his full support for the students’ creativity.
“We warmly welcome the innovation undertaken by our students through the Ramadan edition of the Fikih Gen Z podcast,” Prof. Maksum remarked.
According to him, such an approach is essential to ensure that young people maintain a proper understanding of sharia principles amid the currents of modern trends.
“The important message of the Fikih Gen Z program is that Gen Z can remain relevant and engaged with current trends without abandoning their sharia values,” Prof. Maksum affirmed.
The Fikih Genzi program is scheduled to be broadcast regularly throughout the month of Ramadan via the official social media channels of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Jakarta.
