EduAsiaNews, Malang – Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) is encouraging all of its work units to attain the status of Corruption-Free Area (WBK) and Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Area (WBBM) by 2026. This commitment was reaffirmed during the Progress Report Presentation on the Development of the Integrity Zone (Zona Integritas/ZI), organized by UM’s Internal Supervisory Board (BPI) at the 9th Floor Hall of Graha Rektorat on Friday (20/2).

The event was attended by the Rector of UM, Prof. Hariyono, M.Pd., Vice Rector I Prof. Ibrahim Bafadal, M.Pd., Vice Rector III Prof. Dr. Markus Diantoro, M.Si., University Secretary Prof. Drs. I Wayan Dasna, M.Si., M.Pd., Ph.D., as well as Integrity Zone teams from all faculties and the Graduate School.

During the forum, each work unit presented its progress in developing the Integrity Zone along with action plans toward achieving WBK/WBBM status. The Faculty of Education (FIP), for instance, emphasized strengthening institutional commitment through the signing of integrity pacts, optimizing digital services via an online system, updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), reinforcing internal supervision, enhancing human resource competencies, and maintaining systematic evidence management.

Ence Surahman, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., Secretary of the UM Integrity Zone Task Force and Head of Governance and Risk Management at BPI, stressed that the development of the Integrity Zone forms an integral part of the university’s broader governance transformation toward transparency and accountability.

“This is a collective endeavor. By strengthening performance contracts, engaging human resources, and fostering a consistent culture of integrity, we are optimistic that more work units will be ready to be nominated for WBK and WBBM status in 2026,” he stated.

He further explained that the ZI development stages have included official declaration, mentoring, internal evaluation, and preparation for submission to the ministry. This year, several work units are targeted to pass tiered evaluations before being formally proposed for the designation.

In addition to system strengthening, UM has intensified anti-gratuity campaigns and reinforced a professional work culture among lecturers, administrative staff, and students.

This strategic initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions. Through the development of the Integrity Zone, Universitas Negeri Malang reaffirms its commitment to delivering clean, transparent, and publicly trusted higher education governance.
