EduAsiaNews, Bangka Belitung — Universitas Bangka Belitung held a public lecture entitled “Challenges for Higher Education Institutions in Promoting Public Information Transparency Amid Technological Disruption” delivered by Donny Yoesgiantoro at the UBB Integrated Campus on Thursday (May 7). The event served as a strategic discussion forum on the role of higher education institutions in fostering open, adaptive, and accountable information governance in the era of digital transformation.
In his presentation, Donny Yoesgiantoro emphasized that higher education institutions hold a crucial position as centers of literacy, scientific development, and agents of social change. According to him, the rapid advancement of information technology has introduced new challenges in managing public information, ranging from the spread of disinformation and data security concerns to increasing demands for transparency in public services.
He explained that public information transparency is not merely an administrative obligation, but also an essential component in building public trust in higher education institutions. Therefore, universities are expected to provide information systems that are accurate, easily accessible, and responsive to public needs.
On the occasion, Donny also referred to Article 28F of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which states that every individual has the right to communicate and obtain information for the development of themselves and their social environment, as well as the right to seek, obtain, possess, store, process, and convey information through all available channels.
“Higher education institutions must be able to serve as examples in implementing healthy and transparent public information disclosure while maintaining ethics and data security amid technological disruption,” he stated.
In addition, Donny highlighted the importance of strengthening digital literacy within academic environments. According to him, members of the academic community need the ability to filter information, understand digital ethics, and utilize technology productively and responsibly.
The public lecture was attended by Hamsani, Vice Rector for Planning, Information Systems, and Cooperation of Universitas Bangka Belitung; Ita Rosita along with her staff; representatives from the Provincial Office of Communication and Informatics of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province; and the academic community of UBB.
In his remarks, Hamsani expressed appreciation for the organization of the public lecture as an effort to strengthen the academic community’s understanding of the importance of public information transparency in the digital era. Participants showed strong enthusiasm through discussions and questions addressing the implementation of information transparency in higher education institutions, the utilization of digital technology in public services, and communication challenges in the age of social media.
Through this event, Universitas Bangka Belitung reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a culture of information transparency, enhancing digital literacy, and promoting transparent and accountable university governance amid the dynamic development of digital technology.
