EduAsiaNews, Semarang – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continues to demonstrate its commitment to preparing graduates who are highly competent, competitive, and ready to compete on the global stage. Since 2023, FPIK UNDIP students have been given opportunities to participate in international internship programs across various fisheries and marine industries located in several regions of Japan.
The program serves as one of FPIK UNDIP’s concrete initiatives to bridge higher education with the demands of the global industry, particularly in the fisheries, aquaculture, and modern marine sectors. Through this program, students not only gain international work experience but also broaden their cultural perspectives, enhance their foreign language proficiency, and develop professional skills within a global working environment.
On April 19, 2026, FPIK UNDIP once again dispatched 28 students to participate in internship programs in Japan. Of these, 13 students were assigned to the city of Ako, while the remaining 15 students undertook their internships in the Esashi region. In addition, 11 students from the Fisheries Product Technology Study Program are scheduled to depart for Esashi in the near future.

The internship program covers a wide range of fisheries and marine industry sectors, including aquaculture, seafood processing, hatchery operations, and the management of modern aquaculture facilities. Students gain hands-on experience working alongside Japanese companies and industry partners that operate according to international standards.
In addition to providing internship opportunities for active students, FPIK UNDIP also facilitates overseas employment opportunities for its alumni. Currently, nine alumni are undergoing training and job preparation programs for placement at aquaculture companies in South Korea under the E-7-3 visa scheme.
The E-7-3 visa is a specialized work visa for skilled foreign workers in designated sectors, including aquaculture and fisheries cultivation. Through this program, FPIK UNDIP alumni are prepared to work professionally in South Korean aquaculture companies through language training, technical competency development, and orientation on international workplace culture.

Prior to entering the training and deployment stages, participants are required to undergo a rigorous selection process, including comprehensive medical check-ups and psychological assessments to ensure their physical and mental readiness for international employment.
Dean of FPIK UNDIP, Prof. Agus Trianto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that this internationalization initiative is part of the faculty’s broader effort to enhance graduate quality and develop highly capable human resources in the fisheries and marine sectors.
“FPIK UNDIP not only focuses on academic education but also ensures that students and alumni have access to global experiences and tangible international career opportunities. This reflects our commitment to producing graduates who are adaptive, professional, and well-prepared to meet the challenges of the global workforce,” he said.
Through its various international internship and overseas employment programs, FPIK UNDIP continues to strengthen its role as a higher education institution that actively fosters global connectivity while creating broader future opportunities for its students and alumni.
