EduAsiaNews, Surabaya – Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), participated in the International Summer School 2026 at Van Lang University, Vietnam. Held from July 24 to 31, 2026, the program aimed to broaden students’ academic perspectives while strengthening international networks in the fields of veterinary health and aquaculture.
The participating students were Eka Rizki Abelia, Arina Bintang Qolbiy, Adelia Sutiyo Rabbani, Siti Nur Rohmawatil Ula, Tsalasani Zuhroh, and Belva Denta Agyasari S. Throughout the program, participants were provided with accommodation, meals, and transportation for the duration of the activities.
Preparing for the Program
Abel explained that she learned about the program through a lecturer at FKH UNAIR. The selection process required applicants to submit administrative documents, including a curriculum vitae (CV) and passport.
“We had prepared the required documents from the beginning. So, when the opportunity to join this program came up, the registration process was easier,” she said.
Learning Shrimp Aquaculture Technology
During the summer school, participants explored various topics related to shrimp aquaculture and the One Health concept. They were introduced to the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology to monitor shrimp growth, including their number, size, weight, and feed conditions in the digestive tract.
Participants also learned how to assess water quality by measuring parameters such as pH and took part in practical sessions to examine shrimp diseases using hepatopancreas samples.
“Through this practical session, we learned how to detect diseases in shrimp using rapid tests. The experience helped me understand that veterinarians also play an important role in supporting the One Health concept,” Abel explained.
Experiences and Takeaways
Beyond the academic activities, Abel said she gained memorable cultural experiences during her stay in Vietnam. She found the local community to be friendly and welcoming, although she encountered several challenges, including difficulties finding halal food and adjusting to different traffic conditions.
For students interested in joining similar international programs, Abel encouraged them to actively seek information and build strong relationships with lecturers.
“Do not hesitate to seek international opportunities. Keep track of information from Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), prepare your documents early, and maintain good communication with lecturers because they can open up many opportunities,” she concluded.
