EduAsiaNews, jakarta – Throughout 2025, UNEJ recorded an exponential surge in patent applications. Based on official data from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) under the Ministry of Law, Universitas Jember has successfully secured the 9th position among Indonesian universities with the highest number of patent applications. This achievement of entering the elite top 10 demonstrates the growing strength of UNEJ’s research, innovation, and downstream commercialization ecosystem within its academic community.

According to data from the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Jember, the growth trend of innovation has shown an impressive trajectory over the past three years. In 2023, UNEJ submitted 4 patents and 6 simple patents, totaling 10 innovations. This figure rose significantly in 2024 to 7 patents and 17 simple patents, totaling 24 innovations. The peak was reached in 2025, when the university broke its previous record with 36 patent applications, evenly divided into 18 regular patents and 18 simple patents.

Responding to this outstanding achievement, the Coordinator of the Center for Research Utilization and Innovation (Puspanova) at LPPM UNEJ, Winda Amilia, explained that the majority of the submitted patents are strongly rooted in modern agriculture. These innovations encompass agricultural engineering, fertilizer formulations, alternative animal feed, as well as pharmaceutical and medical products derived from agricultural resources, including agro-medicine and agro-dental products.

“Most of our patents are agriculture-based, including agricultural engineering, fertilizers, animal feed, and agricultural-based pharmaceutical products such as agro-medicine and agro-dental innovations. This is fully aligned with and represents the realization of Universitas Jember’s vision and mission, which focus on the development of science and technology with environmental and agribusiness perspectives,” said Winda Amilia during an interview on Friday (22/05/2026) at the Tegalboto Campus.

UNEJ’s success in reaching the 9th national ranking is inseparable from the strategic initiatives implemented by LPPM through excellent support services. The strengthening of the university’s intellectual property ecosystem has been systematically facilitated through the establishment of the Rumah HAKI (IPR House), coordinated under Puspanova. This team actively provides comprehensive assistance to lecturers, researchers, and educational staff.

The Puspanova LPPM UNEJ team includes Andrew Setiawan Rusdianto, Ali Wafa, and Rumah HAKI staff member Adila.

“Our main strategy is to prioritize fast and effective services for inventors through Rumah HAKI coordination. We actively communicate various programs and educational content interactively through our Instagram social media platform @rumahhakiunej, so that intellectual property administration is no longer perceived as complicated. In addition, Universitas Jember routinely provides funding assistance schemes for intellectual property registration every quarter,” she added.

Looking ahead, LPPM UNEJ emphasized that it does not intend to focus solely on quantitative achievements or statistical figures. Instead, the accumulated innovations are projected to create tangible economic and social impacts through industrial commercialization.

Currently, Puspanova and its supporting team are finalizing a new guideline draft and an integrated intellectual property registration information system. This new system is designed with a dual function: not only to facilitate internal inventors in registering their works, but also to serve as an interactive digital showcase for the public, government institutions, and industry partners to collaborate in the downstreaming and commercialization process.

Through its breakthrough achievements in 2025, Universitas Jember continues to strengthen its position not merely as an educational institution, but as a national innovation hub ready to provide agriculture-based technological solutions for Indonesia’s self-reliance.
