EduAsiaNews, Purwokerto – The growing demand for efficient, hygienic, and highly competitive poultry farming systems has prompted Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) to develop the Unsoed Closed-House facility. The initiative represents the university’s tangible contribution to strengthening national food security while fostering closer collaboration between academia and industry.
The Unsoed Closed-House facility is directly managed by the university’s Business Management Agency (Badan Pengelola Usaha/BPU). It consists of four closed-house units—A, B, C, and D—with a combined capacity of 100,000 chickens per production cycle.

Units A, B, and C each have a capacity of 20,000 chickens, while Unit D has the largest capacity at 40,000, bringing the total capacity to 100,000 chickens per production cycle.
Supporting Food Security and Strengthening Industry Collaboration
The Unsoed Closed-House facility offers several strategic benefits, including supporting national food security through large-scale, well-managed poultry production. It also serves as a platform for integrating student practical training with entrepreneurship activities, giving students hands-on experience in managing modern poultry businesses.
In addition, the facility strengthens collaboration with industry partners while serving as one of the university’s sources of additional revenue. This business model demonstrates how higher education institutions can actively contribute to productive and sustainable business development.
Business Development Since 2018, with Profit Margins Exceeding 50 Percent
The Unsoed Closed-House initiative began in 2018 with the development of its business concept. This was followed by concept validation and production activities during 2018–2024, laying the foundation for the facility’s operational maturity.
In 2025, development efforts focused on market expansion, product standardization, cost efficiency, and digital monitoring to improve management effectiveness. In 2026, management has focused on operations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and product diversification to expand the business’s added value.
In terms of business sustainability, the Unsoed Closed House has recorded profits exceeding 50 percent, demonstrating that university-based poultry business management can generate competitive returns while supporting the university’s three pillars of higher education.
Through the Unsoed Closed-House initiative, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman reaffirms its commitment to developing an applied campus business model that supports national food security while strengthening the synergy between education, entrepreneurship, and industry.
