EduAsiaNews, Bali — The Rector of Universitas Balikpapan, Dr. Ir. Isradi Zainal, attended the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Forum of Indonesian Engineering Deans (FDTI) for the 2025–2027 period. This strategic event for engineering education was held at Universitas Udayana, Bali, from Monday to Tuesday (March 30–31, 2026).
Dr. Ir. Isradi Zainal’s presence at this prestigious forum carried a special role as a director and advisor. This position is an ex-officio appointment granted to him in his capacity as the former Secretary General of FDTI for the 2019–2021 term.
His participation in this Rakernas also serves as a reminder of his significant contributions to the engineering sector in Indonesia. During his tenure as Secretary General of FDTI, alongside Prof. Nizam—who at the time served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada and was later entrusted by the state as Director General of Higher Education—the two became central figures behind the establishment of Lamtek (the Independent Engineering Accreditation Agency).
In collaboration with the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), FDTI under their leadership successfully initiated the establishment of this accreditation body as part of efforts to enhance the quality standards of engineering education in Indonesia.
Dr. Ir. Isradi Zainal’s role in Lamtek has been particularly crucial. In the early stages of the institution’s operations, he was entrusted to serve as Acting Secretary of Lamtek. He worked closely with prominent figures such as Prof. Nizam, Prof. Ngakan, and the then Chairman of PII, Dr. Heru Dewanto, with full support from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim.
In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Ir. Isradi Zainal has also been directly involved as a practitioner. He has served as a Lamtek assessor, conducting evaluations at the Vocational Faculty of Universitas Gadjah Mada as well as at one of the leading private universities in Yogyakarta.
His presence at the 2026 FDTI National Working Meeting is expected to provide constructive input for the 2025–2027 administration. With his extensive experience as both an academic and practitioner, he remains committed to advancing Indonesia’s engineering competencies to ensure global competitiveness.
This year’s Rakernas serves as an important momentum to formulate policy directions for engineering education that are adaptive to technological advancements and future industrial needs.
