EduAsiaNews, Bandung – In an effort to improve the quality of lecturer certification and optimise career development for academic staff, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), held a plenary meeting to review the assessment results of the second batch of competency tests for Educational Laboratory Personnel (PLP) functional positions, alongside monitoring and evaluation of lecturer educator certification in West Java.

The event took place at the Master of Management Building Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, Unpad’s Dipati Ukur Campus in Bandung, on Thursday (Oct. 29).

Santi Sayanti Agustina, Head of the Subdirectorate of Lecturer and Education Personnel Management at the Ministry’s Directorate of Human Resources, explained that the monitoring and evaluation of lecturer certification aimed to ensure that the certification process complied with established standards and principles of objectivity, while contributing to lecturers’ professionalism and welfare.

She also emphasised the critical role of Educational Laboratory Personnel (PLP) as academic support staff in maintaining the quality of research, practical classes and laboratory services at higher education institutions.

“Through this forum, we hope the evaluation and plenary meeting will serve as a constructive coordination platform and an open space for discussion to support the development and improvement of human resources, including both lecturers and education personnel,” she said.

Meanwhile, Unpad’s Director of Human Resources and Career Development for Education Personnel, Dr. Imanudin Kudus, said that ensuring equitable access to lecturer certification was one of the key issues requiring attention.

He added that education personnel, particularly Educational Laboratory Personnel, played an important role as partners of lecturers in supporting high-quality research.

“The monitoring and evaluation of lecturer certification and the plenary meeting on promotions for PLP functional positions are essential to managing the careers of both lecturers and education personnel,” Imanudin said in his remarks.

Prof. Ivan Hanafi, an expert member of the Lecturer Certification (Serdos) team at the Directorate General of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, said the evaluation also addressed changes to lecturer certification policies.

The discussion provided an opportunity for universities and lecturer certification administrators to share feedback and identify challenges as input for improving the implementation of certification in subsequent periods.

“We want to obtain an overview of how the programme is being implemented, starting with the technical guidelines issued by the ministry regarding lecturer certification, followed by its implementation, the appointment of assessors and the assessment process,” Prof. Ivan said.

Unpad’s support for the monitoring and evaluation of lecturer educator certification and the plenary meeting on the assessment results of PLP functional position competency tests forms part of its broader efforts to improve human resource management in higher education institutions.

The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination between the ministry and universities in supporting the career development of lecturers and education personnel.
