EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Three students from the undergraduate Accounting Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (FEB UPNVJ), who form Team Accounthink, won third place at the Brawijaya Accounting Fair 2026 – National Accounting Olympiad. They achieved the distinction after advancing through several rounds, from the preliminary stage to the Grand Final, which was held offline at Universitas Brawijaya in Malang on Oct. 3, 2026.
Team Accounthink consists of Syihab Rifqi Hadzami as team leader, Muhammad Iqbal Maulana and Faradita Agustina Anggraini. All three are undergraduate Accounting students at FEB UPNVJ who had to balance competition preparations with work on their undergraduate theses.
The Brawijaya Accounting Fair 2026 – National Accounting Olympiad is a national-level accounting competition organized by the Student Association of the Accounting Department at the Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Brawijaya. It brings together students from higher education institutions across Indonesia.
The competition comprised three stages. The preliminary round was held online on Aug. 23, 2026, using a computer-based test (CBT) system. Qualifying participants then advanced to the semifinals on Sept. 12, 2026, conducted via Zoom Meeting and Google Classroom, before proceeding to the Grand Final on Oct. 3, 2026, which took the form of a quiz competition.
The road to the podium required months of preparation. Team Accounthink spent approximately two months studying various accounting subjects listed in the competition guidelines, including Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation and Auditing.
The team also prepared by working on case studies, preparing journal entries, analyzing financial statements and simulating how to answer questions quickly and accurately. As the Grand Final approached, they focused increasingly on making sound decisions under time pressure.
Their biggest challenge, however, was time management. All three members were working on their undergraduate theses, requiring them to balance thesis supervision sessions and final-project assignments with competition preparations. Without specialized training, they independently divided the study materials, discussed the topics and regularly worked through practice questions together.
Their previous competition experience also proved valuable. Before competing in the Brawijaya Accounting Fair 2026, the three students had participated in the Jambi Accounting Competition as part of ODENSI 2026, where they won an honorable mention (fourth place).
That experience helped Team Accounthink become familiar with different question formats, manage their time more effectively and strengthen communication among team members. These skills became even more important when they entered the Grand Final, where competition and pressure intensified.
In the final round, composure and mutual trust played an important role in the team’s strategy. During the buzzer-question session, in particular, each member had to think quickly while considering the accuracy of their answers. Their teamwork gave them greater confidence to make decisions in a competitive setting.
UPNVJ’s support also contributed to the team’s journey. In addition to moral and administrative assistance, the students received financial support after their proposed Terms of Reference (Kerangka Acuan Kerja or KAK) were approved. This assistance enabled them to participate in the competition while providing opportunities to develop their academic capabilities and represent the university at the national level.
For Team Accounthink, third place was more than the final result of a competition. The achievement demonstrated that the courage to seize opportunities, consistent learning and teamwork can lead to success even when students must balance competing academic demands.
The team hopes their experience will encourage other UPNVJ students to participate in competitions, even if they do not yet feel fully prepared. They believe competitions offer more than opportunities to win awards; they also provide a platform to assess one’s abilities, gain experience and grow through the process.
Team Accounthink’s achievement further supports UPNVJ’s efforts to foster an academic environment that encourages students to develop their competencies and excel at the national level. Supporting student participation in various competitions forms part of the university’s broader efforts to develop an accomplished and adaptable younger generation capable of enhancing the university’s reputation through tangible achievements.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
