EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) held an information session on the 2026 Deeptech Hackathon on Monday (Oct. 5, 2026), at the Dean’s Meeting Room of the UNJ Faculty of Engineering, Tower A of the SFD Building, 10th floor. The event aimed to introduce the program scheme, challenges presented by industry partners and the registration process to the UNJ academic community.

The event was attended by UNJ Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Information Systems Prof. Fahrurrozi; UNJ Director of Innovation, Information Systems and Rankings R.A. Murti Kusuma Wirasti; and Head of the Subdirectorate of Innovation and Downstreaming Taryudi. Also in attendance were Atin Supiyani, a lecturer and researcher at the UNJ Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences’ Biology Study Program; PT Matahari Leisure President Director Tigor Ali Namora; and PT Edura Cipta Gemilang Director Sidiq Munajat.

The UNJ Deeptech Hackathon 2026 is an innovation acceleration program organized by the UNJ Directorate of Innovation, Downstreaming, Information Systems and Rankings to connect real-world challenges faced by partners with solutions based on deep technology. The program provides opportunities for members of the academic community to develop solutions that address needs across various fields and have the potential for implementation.

Prof. Fahrurrozi said the Deeptech Hackathon 2026 is part of UNJ’s broader efforts to encourage innovations to be further developed into products that can benefit society.

“UNJ has long been known for its contributions to education, but it is now also expanding its work into non-education fields, including health and food. This is part of our ongoing efforts to promote innovations so that they can be developed into products that can be put to real use by the government and society,” he said.

In the implementation of the program, Murti Kusuma Wirasti emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in forming participant teams. She said solutions did not have to be developed by a single academic discipline but could involve multiple faculties and industry partners.

“The teams can be multidisciplinary. For example, the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Languages and Arts can work together with the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty members can also collaborate with lecturers from other faculties and work directly with industry partners,” she added.

From the industry perspective, PT Matahari Leisure President Director Tigor Ali Namora highlighted the importance of considering production and regulatory aspects from the early stages of innovation development. This is necessary to ensure that the solutions developed are not only technologically sound but also have the potential to be manufactured and implemented.

“When developing a solution, production, regulatory and industry requirements must already be taken into account from the outset when preparing the proposal. We should not end up with a product that is technologically well developed but ultimately cannot be manufactured or fails to comply with applicable regulations,” Ali said.

Through the Deeptech Hackathon 2026 information session, UNJ is encouraging members of its academic community to participate in developing innovations based on real-world needs. Collaboration across academic disciplines and with industry partners is expected to strengthen the development and downstreaming of innovations so that they can deliver broader benefits to society.
