EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) is strengthening its commitment to advancing academic governance transformation through its participation in the 2026 Forum of Vice Rectors for Academic Affairs of Indonesian Public Universities. The forum was held from September 16–18, 2026, at Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Makassar.
UPNVJ was represented by its Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at the forum, which brought together academic leaders from public universities across Indonesia. The event carried the theme “Transforming Higher Education Academic Governance: Strengthening Student Success, Student Admissions Governance, Graduate Competencies, and Selection Integrity.”
The forum addressed several strategic higher education issues, including the Educational Efficiency Rate (AEE) and student success, governance of new student admissions, graduate competencies, and the integrity of the selection process. A total of 75 universities were registered as participants, with 46 universities attending the series of discussions at the Unhas Hotel and Convention, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar.
Discussions on student success highlighted the importance of academic systems capable of identifying students at risk of delayed graduation and providing timely support and guidance. Meanwhile, discussions on student admissions governance covered the allocation of admission capacity through the National Selection Based on Academic Achievement (SNBP), National Selection Based on Test Results (SNBT), and Independent Selection pathways, while taking into account the quality of incoming students and their academic success.
The forum also addressed efforts to strengthen graduate competency standards so that they are aligned with learning outcomes, learning processes, assessments, and labor market needs. In terms of selection integrity, the discussions covered system strengthening, candidate authentication, process security, supervision, fraud detection, and follow-up mechanisms.
Developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) also received attention during the discussions. Universities were encouraged to establish AI governance frameworks that support the learning process while safeguarding academic integrity. This condition also calls for adjustments to learning and assessment strategies to ensure that they can measure learning processes, critical-thinking abilities, and students’ accountability for the work they produce.
Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., emphasized at the opening of the forum the importance of managing universities in an increasingly data-driven and outcomes-oriented manner. Academic governance needs to be viewed comprehensively, covering the quality of incoming students, academic processes, research outputs, and graduate quality.
The results of the forum discussions will subsequently be formulated into a policy brief and national recommendations to serve as input for the development of higher education policies. On September 17–18, 2026, participants took part in group discussions and presentations on student success and AEE, new student admission capacity, graduate competencies, and selection integrity.
For UPNVJ, participation in the forum provided an opportunity to strengthen networks among higher education leaders while bringing the results of national-level consolidation into the development of internal university policies.
