EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (FK UPNVJ) organized an International Community Service (PKM) program at Sanggar Bimbingan Al-Amin Sentul in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday (September 4, 2026). In collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, the program provided education on Healthy and Clean Living Behaviors (PHBS), proper handwashing techniques, and correct toothbrushing practices for Indonesian children from elementary to junior high school who attend the learning center.
The program was designed to foster healthy and hygienic habits from an early age through practical learning that can be easily applied in everyday life. The participants, who were Indonesian citizens living in Kuala Lumpur, took part in the entire series of health education and practice sessions interactively.
The educational sessions were delivered by a team of FK UPNVJ academics comprising Dr. dr. Taufiq Fredrik Pasiak, M.Kes., M.Pd.I., M.H., CIPA; dr. Sri Wahyuningsih, M.Kes., Sp.KKLP.; dr. Erna Harfiani, M.Si.; Primayanti Nurul Ilmi, B.Sc.Pharm., M.Sc.; and Desi Purwaningsih, S.Pd., M.Si.
The program began with an introduction to the importance of implementing Healthy and Clean Living Behaviors as part of efforts to maintain personal health. The FK UPNVJ team then provided explanations and demonstrations on proper handwashing steps and correct toothbrushing techniques, enabling the children to practice them independently.
The learning activities incorporated animated videos, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Participants were encouraged to wash their hands and brush their teeth while singing, making the delivery of the material more engaging and appropriate for the children’s age group. This approach also provided participants with opportunities to engage directly in the learning process rather than simply receiving information through one-way instruction.
The activity represented one of FK UPNVJ’s efforts to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by applying medical and health expertise to address community needs. Holding the program in Kuala Lumpur also expanded the reach of UPNVJ’s community service initiatives to Indonesian communities living abroad.
Through this International Community Service program, FK UPNVJ hopes that the knowledge gained will extend beyond the activity itself and develop into everyday habits that promote personal hygiene and health.
