EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Karate Student Activity Unit (KOP Karate) of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) once again achieved an impressive accomplishment by securing four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in the senior category at the 2026 Yogyakarta Open International Tournament.
Held from June 10–12, 2026, the championship brought together various clubs from Indonesia and several other countries. In the senior category, the KOP Karate UNJ team delivered a consistently strong performance from the preliminary rounds through to the finals.
The four gold medals were contributed by UNJ athletes across several competition events. Cikal Al Giffary, Mohamad Rifqi Alfabian, and Adzi Ahmad Dzikrillah Nur Hidayat won first place in the Senior Men’s Team Kata event. Meanwhile, Reygista Dwi Amanda secured first place in the Senior Women’s -50 kg Kumite event and was also named Best of the Best Senior Women. Another gold medal was won by Ataina Mazaya Harashta in the Senior Women’s Individual Kata event, while Sabrina Fasya and Vira Tania, together with their teammates, secured first place in the Senior Women’s Team Kata event.
In other events, KOP Karate UNJ also secured two silver medals. Cokro Wijoyo won second place in the Senior Men’s +84 kg Kumite event, while Muhammad Naufal Hidayat finished second in the Senior Men’s -55 kg Kumite event.
Meanwhile, two bronze medals were contributed by Muhammad Fahrezi Sebastian, who placed third in the Senior Men’s -75 kg Kumite event, and Sabrina Fasya, who finished third in the Senior Women’s Individual Kata event.
UNJ’s participation in the tournament formed part of its commitment to developing sports excellence within the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK) at UNJ. The participation of student-athletes was aimed not only at achieving competitive success but also at providing opportunities to develop their skills, gain valuable competition experience, and strengthen their competitive mindset at the international level.
Dean of FIKK UNJ, Prof. Nofi Marlina Siregar, expressed her appreciation for the achievements of the KOP Karate UNJ athletes, noting that their success demonstrated the positive outcomes of the sports achievement development program within FIKK.
“We appreciate the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and the entire team in representing UNJ in international competition. This achievement serves as motivation for FIKK to continue strengthening its sports excellence development programs while encouraging students to develop their potential and achieve success at both the national and international levels,” said Prof. Nofi Marlina Siregar.
She added that the achievement was not only a source of pride for the athletes but also strengthened FIKK’s contribution to fostering a culture of excellence within UNJ.
“We hope that this achievement can be maintained and further improved. Most importantly, students should view every competition as an opportunity to enhance their skills, sportsmanship, discipline, and winning mindset,” she added.
Through intensive preparation, structured training programs, and well-planned competition strategies, the KOP Karate UNJ team was able to compete at its highest level and secure eight medals. The achievement reflects the athletes’ dedication, hard work, and solidarity in bringing honor to UNJ on the international karate stage.
FIKK UNJ extends its appreciation to all athletes, coaches, and officials who worked hard to represent UNJ in the tournament.
