EduAsiaNews, Kuala Lumpur — A delegation from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta conducted a benchmarking visit to Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, as part of the University’s efforts to strengthen research governance and promote the internationalization of research.
Head of the Research and Publication Center at UIN Jakarta’s Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M), Dr. Siti Ummi Masruroh, M.Sc., explained that the visit aimed to learn best practices in research management from one of Asia’s leading higher education institutions.
“This benchmarking visit is part of UIN Jakarta’s efforts to strengthen research governance, improve the quality and productivity of scholarly publications, and expand international collaboration networks,” she said.
The lecturer at UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Science and Technology noted that Universiti Malaya was selected as a reference institution because of its strong academic and research reputation. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, UM was ranked 58th in the world.
“This ranking reflects Universiti Malaya’s capacity to build a robust research ecosystem, produce high-quality scholarly publications, and develop international academic networks,” she explained.
Through the visit, the UIN Jakarta delegation is expected to gain insights into various best practices in research management, including governance and institutional support, strategies for improving the quality of scholarly publications, researcher capacity development, and strengthening collaboration with international partners.
“What we want to learn is not only the final outcomes, but also the systems and ecosystem that have been developed to produce high-quality research and publications while generating broader impact,” she said.
According to Ummi, strengthening research management has become increasingly important as UIN Jakarta continues to develop as an Islamic higher education institution committed to academic excellence and global contribution. Universiti Malaya’s experience in developing an advanced research ecosystem is expected to serve as a valuable reference in formulating research development policies and strategies at UIN Jakarta.
In addition to providing an opportunity to exchange best practices, the visit was also aimed at exploring opportunities for academic and research collaboration. The networks established through the initiative are expected to encourage collaboration between researchers at UIN Jakarta and academics at Universiti Malaya, including joint research, collaborative scholarly publications, and the development of international academic programs.
“We hope this benchmarking visit will not stop at the exchange of information, but will be followed up through concrete collaborations that provide benefits for the research development of both institutions,” she added.
Furthermore, Ummi emphasized that the benchmarking initiative is part of UIN Jakarta’s strategic efforts to foster a stronger, more productive, collaborative, and internationally oriented research culture.
Through strengthened governance and expanded academic networks, UIN Jakarta is expected to enhance its contribution to the advancement of knowledge while further strengthening its position as a world-class Islamic higher education institution.
