EduAsiaNews, Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), held the 2026 Industrial Design Workshop under the theme “Intellectual Property Protection Strategies to Support Innovation Commercialization” on Thursday (August 20, 2026). The event, attended by ULM Vice Rector IV, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., took place at Lecture Theater Hall 4, SAC General Building, ULM, and was open to the general public.
Head of LPPM, Prof. Ir. Muthia Elma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., explained that the workshop served as a platform to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of intellectual property protection, particularly industrial designs, as part of efforts to encourage innovations to be further developed and generate economic value.
Through the workshop, she also expressed hope that participants would gain a better understanding of industrial design protection strategies, ranging from the registration process to the importance of ensuring that the works or designs they create receive adequate legal protection. Such knowledge is considered essential for academics, students, business practitioners, and members of the public who possess innovative works with potential for further development.
The workshop featured two speakers from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI): Fita Permata, S.Sn., M.Si., a Senior Industrial Design Examiner, and Ruslinda Dwi Wahyuni, S.S., M.Si., LL.M., a Senior Industrial Design Examiner.
The presence of the speakers provided participants with an opportunity to obtain first-hand information from industrial design examiners on intellectual property protection, particularly in relation to industrial designs and innovation development.
The activity is expected to raise public awareness, particularly among members of the academic community and innovation practitioners, regarding the importance of actively protecting their creations while supporting the commercialization of innovations. Through this initiative, ULM continues to strengthen an innovation ecosystem that not only produces knowledge and creative works but also generates meaningful impact and added value through the protection and utilization of intellectual property.
