EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) held the 2026 UPNVJ Student Aspirations Forum (Forum Aspirasi Mahasiswa/FAM) at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium, Pondok Labu Campus, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (August 19, 2026). Carrying the theme “Synergizing Ideas, Turning Them into Concrete Actions for an Equitable Campus,” the forum brought together students and university and faculty leaders to discuss academic matters, services, facilities, and student life directly. The aspirations expressed during the forum were intended not merely to remain topics of discussion but to serve as input for evaluating and following up on improvements to services and policies across UPNVJ.

The forum was attended by UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm., together with the university leadership, deans and faculty leadership teams, as well as representatives of the University Student Executive Board (BEM) and Faculty Student Executive Boards.

The participation of university and faculty leaders alongside student organizations in a single forum formed part of UPNVJ’s efforts to strengthen two-way communication in campus management. Students were provided with a platform to convey the conditions they experience, while university leaders were able to hear firsthand about the issues and needs emerging among students.

In his remarks, Prof. Anter Venus emphasized that student aspirations are an important component of the university’s improvement and development process.

“The Student Aspirations Forum is a very important platform for all of us to listen to, understand, and address various issues within UPN Veteran Jakarta. Student aspirations should be viewed as a source of positive energy for improving and advancing the university.”

According to Venus, higher education requires the participation of all members of the academic community to ensure that policies adopted can address actual needs on the ground. Differences in perspectives between students and university management, he said, are a natural part of academic life as long as they are expressed through open communication, mutual respect, and a problem-solving orientation.

Therefore, FAM UPNVJ 2026 was designed not merely as a platform for expressing criticism and providing feedback. The forum also served as a means of connecting students’ concerns with those responsible for decision-making and service delivery at both university and faculty levels.

“We do not simply want to hear your aspirations; we also want to encourage every idea to be translated into concrete action. Therefore, let us build open and respectful communication that is oriented toward solutions. UPNVJ is our shared home, and its progress is our shared responsibility,” Venus said.

During the forum, students raised various issues related to the provision of education and campus life. Discussions covered academic services, facilities and infrastructure, student activities, and various student needs related to improving the quality of the learning environment at UPNVJ.

Direct discussions with university and faculty leaders provided an opportunity for each issue to be understood from multiple perspectives. Students were able to explain the conditions they experienced, while the relevant units received input to conduct evaluations within their respective areas of responsibility.

This dialogue-based approach also positioned students not merely as recipients of university services or policies. Students became an important component in institutional development by providing constructive criticism, ideas, and aspirations.

For UPNVJ, openness to student aspirations is part of efforts to develop responsive and participatory higher education governance. Feedback arising from students’ day-to-day experiences can serve as an important source of evaluation to determine whether policies, service systems, and facilities are functioning in accordance with the needs of the academic community.

The theme “Synergizing Ideas, Turning Them into Concrete Actions for an Equitable Campus” further emphasizes that communication between students and the university should lead to meaningful follow-up. Accordingly, the success of the forum is measured not only by the number of issues raised but also by how those inputs can be translated into improvement measures based on the priorities and respective authorities of each unit.

The forum also strengthened an academic culture that provides space for differences of opinion. Expressing criticism and aspirations through open dialogue allows issues to be discussed proportionately while preventing information gaps between students, faculties, and the university.

Through FAM UPNVJ 2026, the university encouraged this form of communication to remain an integral part of its institutional evaluation process. Student participation is expected to enrich the perspectives of university leaders in formulating policies and improving the quality of academic and student services.

For the UPNVJ Rector, the forum’s central spirit is to ensure that the university’s development is carried out collaboratively. Student aspirations serve as strategic input, while university leaders are responsible for managing them according to priorities, authority, and the interests of the entire academic community.

Through an ongoing mechanism of dialogue and follow-up, UPNVJ reaffirms its commitment to building a campus environment that is increasingly open, inclusive, responsive, and equitable, while strengthening trust between students and university management in advancing UPNVJ.

Mengusung tema “Sinergi Gagasan, Wujudkan Aksi Nyata demi Kampus Berkeadilan”, forum mempertemukan mahasiswa dengan pimpinan universitas dan fakultas untuk membahas persoalan akademik, pelayanan, fasilitas, hingga kehidupan kemahasiswaan secara langsung.
