EduAsiaNews, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) congratulated its alumna, Dr. Beverly Lorraine Ho, on her appointment as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). She was formally sworn into office on August 11 at Malacañang Palace.
Ho brings decades of experience and expertise in public health and public policy, guided by UP’s values of honor, excellence, and public service.
Before her appointment, Ho held various positions at the Department of Health (DOH), where she made significant contributions to improving healthcare services for Filipinos. As Chief of the Health Research Division of the Bureau of Health Policy Development and Planning from April 2016 to February 2020, she played a key role in the development of the Universal Health Care Act.
She subsequently served as Director of the department’s Health Promotion and Communication Service from March 2020 to January 2023. She was promoted to Undersecretary of the Department of Health in 2022, and later served as Assistant Secretary for Public Health Services from January 2023 to January 2024.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ho also served as Deputy Spokesperson of the Department of Health from March 2020 to December 2023, where her team produced infographic briefs to help communicate public health information to the public.
In 2022, she was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) and named among the Outstanding Women in Government Service. Two years later, Ho received the Public Health Practice Leadership Award from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Ho earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP Manila College of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology, cum laude, at UP Diliman.
Her appointment to lead PhilHealth marks another significant milestone in the career of a UP alumna whose work has focused on strengthening public health policy and healthcare delivery in the Philippines.
