EduAsiaNews, Shantou China — The Halal Product Assurance Institute (LPH) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has expanded its halal testing services in China to facilitate the supply chain of export products entering Indonesia. The expansion was formalized through a strategic partnership with an internationally accredited laboratory facility and local partners in Shantou, Guangdong Province, on August 10, 2026.
The initiative was officially established through the signing of a three-party Cooperation Agreement, No. SPK-236/LPH-UINJKT/VIII/2026. The agreement brings together LPH UIN Jakarta, Silk Road Faiz (Guangdong) International Certification Co., Ltd. (SRF), and Guangdong Vantin Testing Co., Ltd., following a series of on-site assessments conducted by a university delegation in the days leading up to the signing.
Head of LPH UIN Jakarta, Dr. Yusraini Dian Inayati Siregar, M.Si., who led the delegation to China, said the partnership was established to address practical challenges and needs in the field.
“This cooperation is not merely about laboratory testing, but about ensuring that global products can meet Indonesia’s halal standards through a credible and reliable process,” Dr. Yusraini said.
She added that prior to the signing, her team had assessed the laboratory facilities to ensure the credibility of the testing process from the outset.
“We assessed the testing methods, service scope, facilities, and available equipment. The results of this evaluation were subsequently followed up as part of our commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance ecosystem on the global stage,” she added.
Effective Cross-Institutional Division of Responsibilities
Under the partnership, the three institutions will assume complementary roles to ensure that the halal testing process is effective and accountable.
LPH UIN Jakarta will retain full authority over document review, determination of testing parameters, evaluation of test reports, and the implementation of halal audits.
Meanwhile, Guangdong Vantin Testing Co., Ltd. will be responsible for all technical laboratory aspects, including sample collection, sample custody and chain-of-custody management, testing procedures, and method validation. SRF will serve as a communication and coordination bridge between LPH UIN Jakarta, the laboratory, and industry players in China seeking to export their products to Indonesia.
Testing Scope and Consumer Safety Assurance
Laboratory testing plays a vital role in protecting Muslim consumers in Indonesia from exposure to non-halal substances in imported products. Through its partnership with Vantin Testing, the testing scope has been comprehensively designed using scientifically valid and traceable methods in accordance with the requirements of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and the fatwas of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
The testing parameters include the detection of specific porcine DNA, proteins, and peptides; testing for gelatin, collagen, and animal-derived enzymes; analysis of animal-derived ingredients in cosmetic products; and ethanol testing.
These rigorous procedures are intended to ensure that products entering the Indonesian market are free from prohibited and questionable substances.
Expanding Access for Global Businesses
For producers and exporters in China, the establishment of this local service network will significantly facilitate the process of meeting Indonesia’s halal certification requirements, without the administrative and logistical challenges associated with handling the process remotely.
Zhang Ye, a representative of SRF, welcomed the cross-border collaboration, describing the initiative as a strategic solution for Chinese industries seeking access to Indonesia, home to one of the world’s largest Muslim consumer markets.
“SRF aims to build a bridge connecting Chinese companies with Indonesia’s halal market, enabling more companies to understand and meet Indonesia’s halal requirements more easily,” Zhang Ye said.
Through this synergy, LPH UIN Jakarta is not only strengthening its position as a globally competitive halal inspection institution but is also contributing to the facilitation of international trade based on Islamic principles and trusted quality standards.
