EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) has once again achieved a notable accomplishment through its students. A team from the Student Creativity Program in Constructive Idea Videos (PKM-VGK) successfully secured national funding under the 2026 PKM program with an innovative proposal entitled, “Optimizing Treatment Adherence Among Children with Tuberculosis Through a Digital Application to Support Indonesia’s Tuberculosis Elimination Target by 2030.”

The team is led by Annisa Nurjannah, with members Octira Mulia Zahra, Kayla Annisa Ramadhani, and Muhammad Rafirajna Pramakrisna. The project is supervised by Dr. Ratna Puspita, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, UPNVJ.

Through their proposal, the PKM-VGK team addressed the issue of low treatment adherence among pediatric tuberculosis (TB) patients. The lengthy treatment period, which typically lasts between six and nine months, often poses significant challenges for both children and their parents. This situation may lead to treatment discontinuation and increase the risk of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

As a solution, the students designed a child-friendly interactive digital application. The application incorporates several features, including automated medication reminders, health education through gamification, and a real-time monitoring system integrated with healthcare facilities and community health center cadres.

Team leader Annisa Nurjannah explained that the innovation was developed to create a more engaging, educational, and technology-adaptive approach to TB treatment.

“We aim to change the perception that TB treatment for children is always a difficult and tedious process. Through an interactive digital approach, we hope children will be more motivated to adhere to their treatment regimen consistently until completion,” said Annisa.

Meanwhile, team member Kayla Annisa Ramadhani emphasized that the initiative represents a tangible contribution by students toward supporting the government’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis in Indonesia by 2030.

“We believe that healthcare innovation does not always have to begin with complex technology. Simple approaches that are closely connected to the daily lives of children and their parents can have a significant impact on the success of TB treatment,” Kayla stated.

The team’s supervisor, Dr. Ratna Puspita, also expressed her appreciation for the achievement. According to her, the success demonstrates the ability of FK UPNVJ students to develop innovative solutions that address societal needs while aligning with advancements in digital healthcare.

“This achievement proves that FK UPNVJ students not only excel academically but also possess strong social awareness and critical-thinking skills in addressing public health challenges. The proposed idea is highly relevant to the government’s efforts to achieve a TB-Free Indonesia by 2030,” Dr. Ratna explained.

With the national funding secured, the PKM-VGK team will proceed to the production stage of their constructive idea video. The video will be developed using a strong cinematographic concept and educational narrative and will be presented at the national level as a medium for advocating digital health innovation.

This accomplishment is expected to inspire other UPNVJ students to continue creating, innovating, and making meaningful contributions to the advancement of public health in Indonesia.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
