EduAsiaNews, Bandung — The Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Universitas Islam Bandung (LPPM Unisba) organized a Socialization Program on Patent Drafting and Assistance for the Substantive Completion of Patent Drafts in collaboration with the Direktorat Jenderal Kekayaan Intelektual Kementerian Hukum Republik Indonesia (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia. The event took place on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at the 3rd Floor Meeting Room of the LPPM Unisba Building. This initiative reflects Unisba’s commitment to building a strong, productive, and impactful intellectual property ecosystem for the academic community, industry, and society.

The DJKI delegation was led directly by Dr. Andriensjah, Director of Patents, Integrated Circuit Layout Designs (DTLST), and Trade Secrets at the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, accompanied by 25 expert personnel consisting of Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Patent Examiners. Their presence demonstrated the government’s strong commitment to strengthening patent capacity within higher education institutions.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ratna Januarita, Vice Rector for Alumni and Cooperation Affairs at Universitas Islam Bandung, who delivered remarks on behalf of the university leadership. In her speech, Prof. Ratna emphasized that Unisba is currently among the universities with the highest number of patent draft submissions at the national level.

“Unisba is currently recognized as one of the universities with the largest number of patent draft submissions nationwide. This reflects the strong spirit of innovation among our lecturers and researchers, while also serving as a foundation that must continue to be maintained and developed sustainably,” she stated.

She added that this achievement is the result of a research and innovation ecosystem consistently developed by Unisba to support the advancement of science and technology.

On the same occasion, Dr. Andriensjah expressed appreciation for Unisba’s achievements in the field of intellectual property, including the establishment of the Intellectual Property Center (Sentra KI) and the development of a Science Techno Park.

“Unisba already has an Intellectual Property Center and is currently developing a Science Techno Park. These infrastructures are strategic assets, and the Directorate of Patents is ready to collaborate in their development,” he explained.

According to him, the integration of patents and technology is one of the key drivers in accelerating innovation within the national industrial sector. Therefore, collaboration among universities, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and industries must continue to expand so that patent-based innovations can generate added value for the national economy.

He also noted that Unisba inventors have the opportunity to participate in the domestic patent utilization program implemented by the Directorate of Patents as part of strengthening the national patent ecosystem.

The program continued with a Humaniora Patent Socialization session delivered by apt. Gawang Sudrajat, Intermediate Patent Examiner at DJKI, and moderated by Dr. Muhammad Ilman Abidin, Head of the Center for Intellectual Property Development and Services (P2KI) at LPPM Unisba. The session provided participants with insights into the scope of patents in the humanities field, which remains relatively underexplored despite its significant intellectual property protection potential.

Participants also attended a session on Patent Substantive Completion and Patent Drafting through direct mentoring by DJKI Patent Examiners. During this session, participants were guided in preparing strong, accurate, and comprehensive patent drafts and claims to improve the quality of patent applications submitted by inventors within Unisba.

The event also featured the signing of an Implementation Agreement (IA) between LPPM Unisba and the Directorate of Patents, DTLST, and Trade Secrets of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia. This agreement represents a concrete step toward strengthening strategic synergy and sustainable collaboration between Unisba and DJKI in the development and utilization of patents.

Through this initiative, LPPM Unisba once again reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of innovation based on intellectual property within the university environment. Supported by the Intellectual Property Center and collaboration with DJKI, Unisba continues to strengthen its role as a higher education institution actively producing innovations that benefit society, MSMEs, and national industries.
