EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to strengthen its commitment to producing professional physicians through its Medical Professional Education Program, which emphasizes academic excellence, clinical competence, and preparedness to address various challenges in healthcare services. This commitment was conveyed by the Coordinator of the Medical Professional Education Study Program, dr. Mila Citrawati, M.Biomed., Sp.KKLP, during an interview on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Faculty of Medicine, UPNVJ. The program has also earned an “Excellent” accreditation from LAM-PTKes, affirming the high quality of medical professional education at FK UPNVJ.
According to dr. Mila, the Medical Professional Education Program at FK UPNVJ is designed to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare sector. In addition to equipping students with strong clinical skills, the program highlights a preventive medicine approach and “matra” health sciences as its distinctive strengths. These approaches are considered highly relevant in preparing doctors to work effectively in both routine healthcare settings and specialized conditions.
Student competency development is reinforced through an adaptive curriculum aligned with national medical education standards. FK UPNVJ implements a professional medical curriculum based on the Indonesian Doctor Competency Standards, integrating both national content and locally distinguished components to address institutional needs and advancements in healthcare services. During the professional phase, students undergo clinical education, which plays a crucial role in developing practical skills, clinical reasoning, professional ethics, and doctor–patient communication.
In practice, students gain comprehensive learning experiences through 20 clinical rotations, including public health and “matra” health sciences. This learning scheme is designed to strengthen clinical competence, broaden perspectives on healthcare delivery, and foster readiness to respond to diverse community health needs. The inclusion of “matra” health sciences also serves as a distinguishing feature that reinforces FK UPNVJ’s academic identity.
In terms of career prospects, graduates of the Medical Professional Education Program at FK UPNVJ have a wide range of opportunities. After completing the professional stage and fulfilling the required regulations, graduates are prepared to pursue careers as general practitioners, continue to specialist medical training, engage in research, become academics, or contribute to healthcare management. The academic foundation and clinical experience acquired during their studies also support graduates’ readiness to serve in both urban and rural areas, contributing to the equitable distribution of healthcare services.
dr. Mila encourages prospective students interested in pursuing a career in medicine to join FK UPNVJ. According to her, medical professional education not only develops individuals who are academically and clinically competent but also nurtures graduates with social awareness, integrity, and a strong sense of service.
In line with the university’s commitment, the strengthening of the Medical Professional Education Program is part of UPNVJ’s broader effort to enhance the quality of health education in response to national needs. Under the leadership of the Rector of UPNVJ, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm., the university continues to promote the development of outstanding study programs that are relevant to contemporary challenges and deliver tangible benefits to society.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
