EduAsiaNews, Surabaya – A total of 195 delegates from 24 PTN-BH across Indonesia attended the Plenary Session of the PTN-BH Academic Senate Assembly (MSA) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The event took place on Friday, 7 February 2026, at the Airlangga Convention Center, MERR-C Campus, UNAIR.

Carrying the theme Harmonization of the Draft Law on the National Education System with the Current Higher Education Landscape, the Chair of UNAIR’s Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Nursalam, MNurs (Hons), stated that the forum served as a strategic momentum for all PTN-BH in Indonesia to respond to the evolving dynamics of national education policy.

“This theme was selected as a form of academic concern and responsibility of university senates in safeguarding national education policies so that they remain aligned with real conditions, global challenges, and the development needs of Indonesian higher education,” he explained.

According to him, the forum functioned as a platform for evaluation, discussion, and the formulation of strategic recommendations related to the Draft Law on the National Education System, which is included in the 2026 National Legislative Program Priority. The session was expected to bridge academic perspectives with public policies currently being formulated by the Government and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI).

He expressed hope that the PTN-BH Academic Senate Assembly (MSA PTN-BH) would generate various strategic measures and substantive contributions in responding to the Draft Law on the National Education System, while also strengthening the role of PTN-BH Academic Senates in safeguarding the quality, relevance, and competitiveness of national higher education.

Responding to the Dynamics of National Education

Meanwhile, the Rector of UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, SE, MSi, MFin, stated that the theme of the plenary session was highly relevant amid the dynamics of education policy and global challenges faced by Indonesian higher education institutions. The forum, he added, provided an important space for PTN-BH Academic Senates to convey constructive perspectives oriented toward quality, sustainability, and the future of national higher education.

“As the host, we are committed to supporting the entire series of activities. We hope that these discussions will make a tangible contribution to strengthening the national education system,” he said.

Prof. Madyan emphasized that UNAIR viewed this activity as a momentum to strengthen synergy among PTN-BH while formulating policy recommendations that are practical and relevant to the real conditions of higher education implementation in Indonesia. “Hopefully, this plenary session will proceed smoothly and produce the best decisions for the future of Indonesian higher education,” he concluded.
