
EduAsiaNews, Yogyakarta – Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) organized the UNY Faculty Promotion and Rank Acceleration Program on Friday (9/2) at the UNY Auditorium. This initiative is part of the university’s commitment to enhancing human resource quality, particularly faculty members, through structured, transparent, and high-quality academic career acceleration.
In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Dr. Sumaryanto, M.Kes., AIFO, highlighted that strengthening the academic sector remains a top priority. This includes overseeing the establishment of new study programs aligned with societal needs, such as the planned development of undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2), and doctoral (S3) programs in Blora in conjunction with new lecture hall construction. In addition, UNY is optimizing development in the fields of economics and business at the Gunungkidul Campus and coordinating with the Faculty of Education to strengthen Laboratory Schools.
The Rector also revealed that this year, UNY is initiating the establishment of elementary, junior, and senior high schools, as well as a sports university at the Wates Campus, Kulon Progo. Regarding human resources, the university continues to monitor and facilitate faculty and staff promotions, while national and international ranking improvements are given special attention by the cooperation office. Campus infrastructure development is also being implemented effectively and efficiently, considering cost, quality, and time.
The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Siswanto, M.Pd., Vice Rector for Human Resources and Legal Affairs, presented data on UNY’s faculty, totaling 1,512 members, consisting of 706 master’s degree holders (46.69%) and 806 doctoral degree holders (53.31%), with 641 master’s holders currently pursuing doctoral studies. Based on academic rank, the composition is 7.28% lecturers, 28.82% assistant experts, 33.75% lecturers, 16.93% senior lecturers, and 13.13% professors.
He explained that faculty promotion is conducted through tiered mentoring, from assistant expert to professor, emphasizing the enhancement of pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competencies. Faculty members are also required to uphold academic integrity, create safe and inclusive environments, avoid conflicts of interest, and reject gratuities. Faculty performance management is carried out through the establishment of performance indicators, mentoring, and continuous assessment. Promotion schemes include regular promotion, accelerated promotion, and academic rank adjustment.
The second speaker, Prof. Dr. Yoppy Wahyu Purnomo, S.Pd., M.Pd., Special Staff to the Vice Rector for Human Resources, explained that faculty functional promotions are based on Ministerial Regulation Permendiktisaintek No. 52 of 2025, which provides a more transparent and quality-focused academic career system. Administrative requirements include fulfilling the Faculty Workload (BKD) for a minimum of four consecutive semesters at the same university, achieving a minimum good SKP score for the last two years, a minimum tenure of two years, meeting credit point requirements for each rank, and passing a competency test.
