EduAsiaNews, Bandung — Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held its Early Semester Gathering on Tuesday (3 February 2026) at the ITB West Hall. The event served as a strategic forum to communicate institutional performance achievements, align the academic community’s steps in advancing ITB’s transformation agenda for 2025–2030, and motivate the academic community at the start of the new semester.

On this occasion, the Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., accompanied by the Vice Rectors, presented institutional performance, achievements, and strategic plans for 2026 before approximately 1,000 members of the academic community in attendance, comprising faculty members and educational support staff. The event was moderated by the Director of Communication and Public Relations of ITB, Dr. N. Nurlaela Arief, MBA., IAPR.

In his presentation, Prof. Tata emphasized that ITB’s transformation cannot be achieved through a “business as usual” approach. He called upon all elements of ITB to move forward collectively, strengthen collaboration, and build sustainable global competitiveness.

“The target of positioning ITB among the world’s top 150 universities by 2030 requires a fundamental change in mindset and ways of working. We must be bold in transforming—from working individually to becoming a collective force that reinforces one another under the principle of One ITB,” stated the Rector.

The Rector highlighted ITB’s achievements in international rankings, including its positions in the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, as well as ITB’s strong performance across various disciplines in subject-based rankings. These achievements constitute important capital to propel ITB to a higher level through the strengthening of education, research, innovation, and internationalization.

In the area of education, ITB continues to undertake regulatory reforms and learning innovations, including the development of multidisciplinary programs, international programs, and double degree schemes. These efforts are aimed at improving graduate quality, expanding global networks, and strengthening the role of postgraduate education as the foundation of a world-class research university.

In the fields of research and innovation, ITB has recorded significant increases in internationally reputable publications, the number of research proposals, and external research funding. The Rector underscored the importance of downstreaming research outcomes so that ITB’s works are not only academically excellent but also generate tangible impacts for society, industry, and national development.

In the area of communication and partnerships, ITB continues to strengthen its role as an open, collaborative, and impactful institution. Various communication channels are being developed in an integrated manner to support the dissemination of institutional achievements, enhance global reputation, and foster stakeholder engagement.

From the alumni perspective, ITB is developing the One ITB Alumni platform as a single gateway for alumni services, professional networking development, and contribution opportunities. The initial phase focuses on data verification and the strengthening of alumni professional profiles, which will later be expanded to include academic document services and the enhancement of the ITB Endowment Fund. This initiative is expected to strengthen alumni connectivity with their alma mater and open opportunities for strategic collaboration.

The Rector also presented ITB’s financial performance, which continues to be guided by the principles of fiscal discipline, efficiency, and sustainability. Budget management transformation is carried out with due attention to good governance, restructuring of procurement processes, and the strengthening of ITB’s business units.

Through ITB’s corporate entities, revenues from consultancy services, training programs, technology solutions, research commercialization, and asset management continue to show positive contributions. In addition, the management of the ITB Endowment Fund has experienced consistent growth, both in terms of assets under management and the number of beneficiaries, particularly in supporting student scholarship programs.

In terms of human resources, ITB has achieved positive results in meeting faculty workload requirements, increasing national certifications, and expanding the number of full professors. The composition of academic staff based on academic ranks continues to be strengthened to support the quality of education and research.

In addition to faculty development, the enhancement of educational support staff also remains a priority, alongside improvements in governance, the formulation of job descriptions, and the strengthening of performance support systems. Various new regulations and standard operating procedures have been developed and disseminated to promote professionalism, accountability, and work effectiveness across all units.

“All of these initiatives are designed to support ITB’s vision as a fourth-generation university that excels in impactful research and innovation,” he stated.

In closing, the Rector invited the entire ITB academic community to use the Early Semester Gathering as a moment for consolidation and alignment.

“Let us transform together to realize ITB 2030 as a world-class university that makes tangible contributions to Indonesia and the global community. Welcome to Semester II of the 2025/2026 Academic Year,” he concluded.
