EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Fabiana Amhnun, a student of the Communication Studies Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ), completed an internship as a journalist at the Public Relations Division of the Secretariat General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). This experience was part of the Kemdiktisaintek Impactful Internship Program, which provides students with opportunities to engage directly in the professional world. Fabiana described the national program as “a strong initial foundation” for building a career in communication and journalism.

In an interview with the UPNVJ Public Relations Team on Tuesday (February 3, 2026), Fabiana stated that she chose the internship due to its relevance to her concentration in public communication. During the internship, she was directly involved in writing press releases published on the official Kemdiktisaintek website, compiling the internal magazine of the Directorate General of Higher Education, and managing public information that must be accurate, clear, and easily understood by the public.

“Working within a government institution taught me how to convey public information through writing. That was the most valuable experience,” she said. She also applied public communication theories learned in class to develop content that helped build a positive image of the Directorate General of Higher Education and the Secretariat General. The magazine she produced featured strategic programs from three directorates as well as achievements of students, lecturers, and higher education institutions.

Fabiana acknowledged that the greatest challenge was adapting to the workflow of a government institution, which differs significantly from that of student organizations. “The journalist position in my unit is relatively new, so it required greater adjustment,” she explained. Nevertheless, she felt that her work was well documented both digitally and in print, thereby creating a tangible impact for the partner institution.

Fabiana hopes that this experience will serve as valuable preparation for her future. “At the very least, I gained a new perspective that helps me better understand how the world works,” she concluded.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
