EduAsiaNews, Surabaya – A communication expert from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Dr. Suko Widodo, Drs., MSi, has been elected as Chairperson of the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI), East Java Region, for the 2026–2028 term. He was elected by acclamation at the East Java Regional Assembly (Musywil) of ISKI, held in Surabaya on Saturday (31*/1/2026).
In his address, Suko Widodo highlighted the current state of the communication climate, which he believes is experiencing various disruptions due to the burdens and pressures of digital technology. According to him, communication must not lose its humanistic spirit.
“We must all strive to restore the humanistic function of communication, so that digital communication technology does not damage the future of our children,” said Suko.
He expressed hope that the development of digital technology would not instead undermine the future of the younger generation or damage the interpersonal relationships that have been established. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of communication ethics in addressing the challenges of communication in the digital era. Ethics, he stressed, must serve as a shared foundation for communication scholars and practitioners.
“Technology should not harm the future of our children nor damage existing social relationships,” he added.
The East Java Regional Assembly of ISKI was part of a series of activities under Communication Outlook 2026, which carried the theme Maintaining Direction, Ensuring Sustainability. The event was attended by board members and members of the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association of the East Java Region.
Through his leadership, Suko Widodo hopes to guide ISKI East Java to play an active role in maintaining the quality of public communication that is ethical, humanistic, and sustainable amid rapid technological development.
