EduAsiaNews, Cianjur – Jadam Sulfur fungicide is an innovation introduced by students of the Thematic Community Service Program (KKNT Inovasi) from IPB University to promote farmer independence in Cikondang Village, Cianjur Regency, West Java. This program is designed to introduce an environmentally friendly and sustainable sulfur-based alternative fungicide.

Jadam Sulfur is an organic pesticide formulation developed from the “Jadam” (Jayonul Damun Saramdul) concept originating from South Korea. It follows the principles of low cost, easily obtainable materials, and the ability for farmers to produce it independently. In addition to its affordability, Jadam Sulfur production carries minimal chemical residue risk and has a relatively safer environmental impact on soil.

“Jadam Sulfur is a safe alternative fungicide that can be made independently by farmers using readily available materials,” said Khairunnisa Lastanti Putri, a student of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture at IPB University and a member of the KKNT Inovasi program in Cikondang Village.

“It is also more environmentally friendly compared to synthetic chemical fungicides,” she added.

The relevance of the KKNT Inovasi program to real-world problems was confirmed directly by local farmers. Fungal disease outbreaks during the rainy season have long been a major challenge due to the high costs of control measures.

“We often struggle during the rainy season because fungal diseases spread quickly, and chemical treatments are quite expensive. Jadam Sulfur suits the conditions we face and offers a more affordable solution,” said Alwi Mughni, Head of the Giritani 05 Farmers Group in Cikondang Village.

Erti Yulianti, Field Agricultural Extension Officer (PPL) of Cikondang Village, added that the correct dosage and method of application are key to the successful use of Jadam Sulfur in the field.

“If applied correctly, this fungicide can help farmers control plant diseases effectively and sustainably,” she stated.

She expressed hope that the innovation introduced through the IPB University KKNT program would continue to be adopted by local farmers.

“With ongoing guidance, farmers can utilize Jadam Sulfur as a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative for managing plant diseases,” Erti added.

At the conclusion of the program, KKNT Inovasi students handed over the produced Jadam Sulfur to the farmers’ group as a ready-to-use product example.

This program is expected to promote farmer independence in implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative agricultural technologies in Cikondang Village.
