Three of the education-related programs are housed under the Department of Education, Teacher Training, Language, and Literature, while the remaining two programs fall under the Department of Social and Political Sciences. All five programs will be coordinated by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
“So far, we have received numerous requests and expectations for UBB, as a public university, to provide programs in education and teacher training. We certainly need to respond to this situation as part of our efforts to meet the aspirations of the local community. It is widely understood that the demand for educators is increasing and will continue to grow. However, the process does take time—we began by recruiting lecturers first, and then proceeded with phased submissions,” said Ibrahim.
He further stated that UBB will continue to respond to challenges and societal needs, not only in terms of expanding the variety of academic options, but also in increasing student enrollment capacity. Moving forward, UBB will continue to strengthen its institutional services in terms of quality, quantity, and diversity. He also emphasized his commitment to continuously identifying opportunities for institutional development, including the establishment of additional new study programs.
With the addition of these new programs, UBB now offers a total of 36 study programs under the coordination of 11 departments and 6 faculties. The expansion of study program options is expected to correlate with an increase in the Gross Enrollment Rate of Higher Education (APK-PT), as the target number of admitted students will continue to rise. In the 2025/2026 academic year, UBB recorded a total of 10,059 students originating from 25 provinces. In 2025 alone, 2,755 new students were admitted. Over the past five years, both the number of active students and newly admitted students has increased by approximately 110 percent. This growth has indirectly contributed to efforts to boost the Gross Enrollment Rate in Bangka Belitung Province, from 14.85 percent in 2022 to 18.19 percent in 2023, and further to 20.14 percent in 2025.
The newly established study programs will be available for selection starting in the upcoming new student admissions process, which will commence in early 2026. The SNBP, SNBT, and Independent Admission pathways constitute the three admission routes to UBB as a public university. Prospective students are advised to carefully review the applicable requirements, stages, and other strategic considerations when selecting their university of choice. In 2025, UBB attracted a high level of interest, with 11,268 applicants, of whom 2,755 were admitted.
